1. The surgeon points out aesthetic flaws you didn’t inquire about.

Suppose a woman sees a surgeon about breast augmentation and the surgeon, without prompting, asks “Have you thought about doing something about your nose?” The purpose of aesthetic surgery is to make people feel better about themselves.  Planting doubt for the purpose of generating business is unethical.

2. The operation you are considering can be performed by him in his office but not in a hospital.

A doctor can pretty much do anything he wants in his office.  If he cannot do the proposed operation in a hospital, it is because he lacks the credentials to do so.  Head for the hills before it’s too late.

3. The cosmetic surgeon tries to sign you up for an anti-aging regimen.

Anti-aging therapy, for now, is a racket that doesn’t work.  The doctor is either slippery or stupid and neither one a good quality in a surgeon.

4. The surgeon lets a surrogate do all the talking.

If a surgeon does not have the time to sit with you and explain all he/she is going to do and what you are up against it’s time to leave.  If the surgeon doesn’t have the time pre-operatively, don’t expect easy access if there is a problem after the operation’

5. The surgeon is blind.

No explanation needed.
